On Instagram I told my followers to be on the lookout for a blog post about the #okcufotos23 assignment. That was May 5th. It's now July.
So, as most of you know, I graduated college in May and my last semester I took a photography course. I loved this class. I thought it was so interesting to learn about the different functions and features of a camera. I already had a little bit of knowledge about this but the way the professor taught really helped me get a better understanding of all things camera related.
Our semester long assignment was to post one photo to our Instagram every day, for the whole semester, with the hashtag #okcufotos23
I will admit, there were a few days I completely forgot to post a photo. I always felt so guilty about not posting because I didn't want to get a bad grade on the assignment and I knew I wouldn't have a whole semester's worth of photos at the end.
Perspective. That's what I gained from this assignment
I loved this assignment. It challenged me to think differently about my surroundings. At the beginning of the semester I would normally have to take the photo in the evenings when I was ready to go to bed because I had forgotten during the day. This caused me to have to look around my apartment and find something unique that would make for a good photo. I explored new angles, shadows, and color during this time.
As the semester progressed, I became more excited about finding something amazing to use for my photo of the day. If I saw something interesting as I was walking to class, say, a bird feather on the sidewalk, I would take the time to pull out my phone and take a photo. I'm sure people thought that I was a little odd because I would get down close to the subject and test out various angles and perspectives, but I didn't care because I loved what I was doing.
Perspective. That's what I gained from this assignment. Even though I'm no longer in that photography course or even in school, anytime I see something interesting or unique, I think to myself, "that would be great for my photo of the day".
My call to action for you, kind reader, is to find something unique in your surroundings. Be it light from your window casting a shadow on the floor, or a crack in your pantry door. Take a photo of this thing you have found and post it to social media using the hashtag #1perspectiveaday
Let's show others how to look for the beauty, the extraordinary, and the unique in their surroundings using perspective.
